The camera’s gaze follows the course of a spatially twisted figure eight and shows various segments of a dark, cavernous space during a slow camera movement. Light and shadows fall from outside in different directions, but without allowing the outward world to become visible. Temporarily, the spatial dimensions appear unclear. Seemingly natural rock formations show up in succession with artificial-looking elements that could be masonry or a shadow of the grid created by bars. Gradually, the ambiguous appearance of this place reveals itself. The grotto may represent a hermitage, ruin, tomb, prison or shelter, and even a living entity.
